Our boat is a Carver 396, year 2000.   She is a 40ft aft cabin motor yacht, about 16 feet tall, and has a draft (how deep she is in the water) of 42 inches.    With twin 370HP diesels, her top speed is about 30 mph, but cruises at about 20 mph.     Fuel capacity is 330 gallons.  She has an aft cabin and forward cabin, both with baths and showers.   In the main living space, or salon, she has a long couch with recliners built in, and a smaller couch that converts to a fold out bed.  The kitchen has a stove, fridge, microwave and coffeemaker.

There is a wifi hotspot, printer, Roku streaming video system, a smart TV and a TV in the aft cabin.   We also have an over the air HD antenna, and a couple of cameras that we can view online.   Since we and many of our guests still work, we needed good internet access and don’t want to miss those special sports events.  And yes,  Mike is pretty Geeky so likes this stuff!

For on board power, we can connect to shore power when in a marina, but have a Kohler 9kw generator for when she is at anchor, or when we need 110v power to run the 3 air conditioners/heaters (one in the aft cabin, one in the forward cabin, and one in the salon). Basically, there are all the comforts of a couch potato home – but we don’t plan on that and hope to use the 2 folding bikes we have to tour around when we stop.

Above is the helm area or bridge, with up to date electronics, chartplotter and autopilot.  There are digital (fly by wire) throttles and a stern thruster.    This is a comfortable spot for up to 6 people.   Slightly behind and below the bridge is the “porch” area, which has 2 bench seats, and 2 folding chairs.   Forward, outside is a good area for sitting outside.

We have done a bunch of work on the boat, from replacing all the hoses and clamps, bilge pumps, water pumps, etc.,  to  replacing the electronics and switchgear.  The list is extensive, but suffice to say that she is now a reliable and “almost new” ship.

We have a 10 foot dinghy/RIB, with a 10hp Tohatsu outboard.    She launches from a hydraulic lift system that makes for easy deployment and retrieval.

Overall, the perfect looper boat for us, and our guests.
